it's been a while

I understand it's been a while since I've last updated.  I've somewhat occupied myself with projects to do/freelance for creative gigs on Craigslist.  I've also joined a gym, so that's taken a lot of my free time on weekdays when I get the chance to actually go.

But, this blog isn't an update of where I've been & of all the adventures I ventured off to.

I just don't know anymore.  I feel I'm at the end, but I know I shouldn't let this stop me dead in my tracks.  It's nothing big, nor that much of an importance.  At least it shouldn't be anyhow.  I'm just tired.  Tired of trying.  Tired of waiting.  Tired of everything going on that I want to forget about it.  I want it to go away with just the thought of it, or a blink from my eye.  On the other end, though, I don't want it to end.  I don't want it to seem like a waste & forget it all.  I don't want to be something that has been & will never be.   I always feel like I'm running in circles & that I'm not going anywhere in life.  But, sometimes that's not always the solution for people.  To stop cold turkey.  Completely shut it out.  Maybe I care too much.  It's in my nature to be that way.  I wish things could finally go my way because damn it I deserve it!  This year has been one of my worst so why can't I finally be happy like everyone else?

I wish these were better times where things could be the way they should be.

12:34

My hair only looks hot after a good ol' workout from the gym.  Too bad I don't have a picture to show it =(  There's always tomorrow, or well today.

Am I not good enough, or am I too good for anything (not trying to sound arrogant or anything... this is more like one of those rhetorical questions I wish there was an answer for)?  I've been asking myself this for many months now & I just don't know.  I've always patiently waited for things to come my way, & eventually it has.  I'm just tired of waiting so long for it to happen.

My iPod was randomly shuffling through songs as I drove home from work & Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares To You" played.  Memories memories memories flashed through my mind.  Nostalgia suddenly set in.  I'm glad I had my workout at the gym to snap me out of it.  I think if my mind keeps up with doing this to myself I'll end up being either super fit, underweight, or an exercise junkie.

I finally created a sign/logo for Janelle's boyfriend's nephew's cafe.  It only took me around a hour to develop, but I kept messing around with the colors & placement of words and such that I was indecisive to come up with a final design.  Hopefully this will be suffice.

I miss designing.  Especially designing with an elaborate concept in mind.  Sometimes I still imagine how it would be like working for a design or advertising agency of sorts.  I do like the apparel side of designing too, but I'm not sure how long I would want to stick with this.  I have many dreams of what I still want to do.  I just hope I'll be able to live them out.

I know I haven't kept up with my daily nostalgic pictures, but hopefully this one will make up for it:

Nostalgic Pic#5 - Volunteering as a medical victim at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Richmond, VA circa 2006.  I did this a few months prior to this picture & got compensated $50.  I received a letter in the mail asking if I'd like to volunteer & be compensated once again, so I decided to & invited a few friends along for the fun!  I'm still upset everyone except I didn't get my compensation to this day.

eyes cream sonday

As the end of another chill & relaxing weekend draws near, for the first time ever I'm complaining about how I don't want the work week to begin.  These past two weeks at work have been stressful, though, there was no need to feel stressed.  However, under the situations I was in I felt pressured & rushed so how in the hell can I not stress over that?  Anyways, it's over & done & I did the best I could so that's all that really matters... right?

I just saw The Duchess & I must say I did enjoy it.  Especially the elaborate costumes & hair.  That Georgiana sure does have style.  It is based on a true story, so of course everything was predictable.  I just realized Keira Knightley always plays roles where the movie is set in the 17th or 18th century of England.  Not that this is bad or anything.  It suits her most of the time, but I did like her acting in this movie.  If I had a "I kissed a girl & liked it..." & etc. list, Keira would be #2 (#1 would be Angelina Jolie).  Sometimes I wonder what it's like living during those times.  It must be nice to just have everything catered to you & to have lavish dinners & parties.  I'll admit, I wanted to drink wine after watching The Duchess. Throughout 90% of the movie, I always saw a drink in their hands.

I love my Godson & niece.  They're so cute & silly, especially my Godson.  He's full of so much energy & imagination with no real care in the world (he's really intelligent too!).  My niece is still a bit shy, so when I saw her she was acting really sassy & not wanting to stray away from her mommy's or daddy's side.  However, once my cousin popped in the Dora the Explorer dvd on the television it was all over.  My niece jumped up & down, clapped her hands with so much joy, & smiled so big that I thought she was high... off life.  I can't wait to see them again on Christmas.  I swear once they're older they're going to break hearts, especially my niece.  I won't let them date until they're 30.  I wish they wouldn't grow up so fast (insert sad face here)!

Random thoughts:
- I'm ready for something new
- There's so much more things to discover outside my world
- If all else fails, music will always be there for me
- New York soon, yeah?
- I love Mirah's song, While We Have The Sun

yeah new york

Just got back from my weekend excursion in New York not too long ago & I must say it was pleasant to get away from my life in suburbia.  I stayed with a friend in Astoria and loved the neighborhood he lived in.  There was a cute bakery he took another friend of mine & me to called Martha's Country Bakery.  My oh my was it so delicious!  I had a fruit tart on Friday & then a black forest cupcake on Saturday (yes, it was that good that I had to go there twice!).  Saturday, we ate sushi for lunch at Watawa Sushi.  Mmm, it was a good meal at a good price!  I loved the atmosphere inside Watawa.  Their wall was painted a nice red-orange color & had furniture that looked like it was from West Elm, which gave it a modern look that says they're clean & sophisticated yet hip & fun.

On Halloween we ended up going to the Village & saw how festive & creative these residents' costumes were.  We saw people dressed up as "the running of the bulls," Wayne & Garth, a guy in a car accident (he stuck his head through a piece of shattered plexiglass & covered his entire head/face with fake blood & such--very creative), teletubbies, a Red Bull fridge (the guy constructed this box to put over himself that mimicked an actual Red Bull fridge with the shelves & empty cans of Red Bull, & he was able to install a light fixture to light it up & off--also very creative), & the list goes on & on!  I wish I had put more thought into a costume.  I actually did, but my plans just didn't fall through.  My friend, Karen, had an awesome costume.  She was Jubilee from the X-Men & my friend, Francis, was an "Extra Jabbawockee--Not Seen On TV."
We also partied at this club called, Stay.  As the name speaks for itself, we did end up staying at Stay for the rest of the night.  Overall, it was an awesome Halloween despite my lack of dressing up for the occasion.

The rest of the weekend was chill, yet fun.  I went shopping for my godson & niece at F.A.O. Schwartz & of course for myself at the H&M flagship store on 5th Ave.  I'm sad Topshop wasn't open yet, so we didn't get to go there.  I got to hangout with another friend I haven't talked or seen in a while, & it was great to catch up for a bit to see how he was doing.  We all drank special cocktails & $1.50 Japanese beers at Kenka on St. Mark's Place.  The day I left, I had dim sum for the first time ever at Grand Harmony Palace.  The food wasn't bad, but I felt the service was disappointing.  Our waitress seemed very impatient & annoyed of us.  Apparently we came too late for dim sum, but either way they should always have food prepared no matter what.   Anyways, I enjoyed my weekend & wish I had taken more pictures with my actual camera (it's always heavy to lug around with), instead of my camera phone.

where in the world is aly san diego?

Many apologies for the very much delayed update (& the novel of the blog I'm about to post).  I've been somewhat busy.  Ok, so not really.  I've been really lazy & a bit out of it lately.  Nothing new has been going on with me, except I did paper mache for the first time & got a haircut.  I'm also currently borrowing a sewing machine to bring the crafty side out of me.  Anywho...

Maude keeps falling off the tower of my desktop Mac Pro at work.  I wish whoever designed this Kidrobot toy didn't make her feet so damn small so she can actually balance when free-standing.  Her little machete broke, so now it looks like she's just holding a sushi roll (which I suppose is acceptable since her head is shaped like a fish, or so my co-worker says).

I heard the latest Bloc Party album Intimacy, & I must say I'm disappointed.  Although, I like Silent Alarm the best, I enjoyed Weekend In the City & saw it as a fresh change from their debut album.  After hearing their recent album, however, I felt it was just put together without any thought or concept.  They tried adding more synths & experimental sounds, but it just ended sounding like they overdid it.  Well, at least the sound does go with the album title.  Or well, it reminded me of love (feel-good, spontaneous, careless).  Maybe that's what they were going for.  If so, then wow!  That's an interesting concept, however I don't think I'll appreciate Intimacy as much as their previous albums.  Overall, it's catchy.
**Disclaimer:  I'm not an official music critic, so don't take my word for word.  This is purely my own personal opinion.**

I went to Ulta for the first time last Saturday.  It was great!  Since it was still their grand opening week/weekend, I got some free stuff.  I love free things!  Looks like I, too, am a fan of this beauty store.

a great find

One of my coworkers told me about this website (smashingmagazine.com) the other day, & I'm glad she did.  It's a great website & I absolutely love this section of the site:  10 Beautiful Things For A Beautiful Life.

Ah, it's the cute, awesome things in the littlest of life that get me going.

an interesting analogy

Thanks for the analogy, Alex.

poor scarlet

I just had to post this video that my buddy, Francis, showed me.  It's so ridiculously hilarious (skip to 2:45):

...she sure did.

day 2

I didn't get to run today, but my day started off to a bad start that I deserved to have a day to chill out.  Since I couldn't sleep at all last night, I had to force myself to sleep around 3A.M.  Because of my late somber I ended up sleeping through my alarm (or maybe it didn't go off at all because usually I'd hear it if it did) & woke up at 8:30ish in the morning.  I ended up being 20 minutes late, but I stayed late to make up for it.

Speaking of work, I got to color in shoes today.  Not physically coloring in shoes, but doing colorways for the Fall line on my computer.  I always find it fun doing this at work when I get the opportunity.  I don't know why, but I feel I actually contributed something when I do.

So, after work I went to Lynnhaven Mall with my Cyber (Cherry B.) to check out the new Forever 21 store.  I barely or never shop at this store, but I've been looking for a black vest (like foreverrrrr!) & I figured I'd find a decent, affordable one there.  Fortunately, they had some pretty cute clothes & would recommend shopping at this location as oppose to MacArthur's store (it's cleaner, more organized, & huge in comparison to MacArthur's Forever 21).

Random Thought:
Everyday I dread of living another day in suburbia.  I want to get out & move to New York City.  It's time for a change of scenery with a new beginning.  This is my goal.

Nostalgic Photo #3:

Circa June/July 2003 at my house.  We were known as the "Senior Bunch (after graduation the "ex" bunch since we weren't seniors anymore)" & we were close like a family.  Now we're all apart & living separate lives.  I'm still good friends with a few of them, though.

Forgive, but never forget.  Live & never look back.

tag, i'm it

Oh geez! I read Sheeryl's blog & it so happens she got tagged into writing seven random facts about herself & now I will do the same:

7.  I was in chorus in the first grade & had to dress up as a clown for one of our performances alongside with Ms. Jian Zapata.

6.  I was burned when I was 2, or maybe it was 3, & that is why I hate feet.

5.  I was in the Academic Challenge club at Salem Middle School in the 8th grade.  I never got to play on a team until maybe the second to last challenge of the year against Landstown Middle School.  My most glorious & only moment was when they asked what seven squared was.  As both teams pondered for a few minutes that seemed like an eternity (I knew immediately what the answer was, but was too scared to answer right away), Landstown finally buzzed in, but with the wrong answer.  After a few seconds passed, I buzzed in, everyone slowly turned & looked straight at me.  I swear it was something from a movie, but I finally said 49 & everyone turned to look at the judge & that's when she said, correct!  And then we won the game.

4.  My mom loved the show "Who's the Boss" back in the 80's.  Her favorite character was Alyssa Milano's character, & that's how I got my name.  However it's pronounced, ah-LIE-sah & not ah-LIS-sah.

3.  I became treasurer of my high school class not to bring a change to our own class or school, but to become popular & hope everyone wouldn't see me as the shy, little Filipino girl they thought I was.

2.  My first kiss was when I was 17.

1.  I was borderline anorexic.  Ever since the 8th grade I'd eat only one small meal after working out because I was called "fat" from 5th to 7th grade.  Kids are mean.  Because of their meanness I ended up fainting/blacking out during 6th period Earth Science due to a low blood sugar count & anemia.  Thanks to those kids, I've been self-conscious about my looks & weight to this day.  Sometimes I still find myself only eating one meal a day.

I'm tagging Jessica, Katrina, Mylam, Karen, & Will!

Another nostalgic picture:
Polaroid picture circa late 2001/early 2002.  Celebrating the holidays with the family at a relative's house.  I was into fly-a-ways because apparently the whole 1970's Farrah Fawcett Charlie's Angels hair was in.

day 1

So, I'm trying this new thing of adding pictures to my blogs (
not that I haven't before) because I think they make blogs more interesting, & it'll give me the chance to use my camera for something other than collecting dust (even though it's in its camera bag, but you guys know what I mean).

Anyways, as most of you have read in my previous blogs (or if you haven't), I'm running the Susan G. Komen 5k marathon this Saturday, Oct. 18th.  It's been a little over a week since I last ran, so all of this week until the day of the Marathon I'll be running/training to build my endurance up once again.  I actually ran either 2.5 or 3 miles at Mount Trashmore not too long ago & I didn't feel too out of shape.  I ran almost nonstop until my iPod started acting up on me (probably because it kept bouncing up & down in my fanny pack).  I think I'll do fine come Saturday.

Yesterday I attended the Look Alive Project event at the Granby Theater.  I actually submitted 300 copies of my postcard to be put into giveaway totes, which I didn't get.  I was a little disappointed because it wasn't thoroughly planned out as I thought it'd be (shoot, the website didn't explain too well what it was about either), but seeing the different art & photography there was interesting.

This is totally random, but I've been listening to MGMT's Electric Feel (one of my favorite MGMT songs) on repeat for almost an hour now & for the first 30 minutes I didn't mind it, but the last 30 minutes I blocked it out from my hearing because I was concentrating on writing this blog out.  Now that I'm listening to it again I never thought I'd get sick of this song, but now I'm getting annoyed of it... next!

To keep myself busy, I've come up with little projects for myself to keep up with my creative flow.  My mare, Ronalyn, wanted me to create a logo for her.  This is what I've come up with so far (to your left).  We both agreed on the second & forth one (going from left to right).  Now all I'll need to do is figure out the color scheme & tada!  The next project I'm working on is a drawing/design for a friend.  I can't post too much about it right now, though, because it's supposed to be a surprise.  Once it's finished & I've given it to my friend I'll post it up.  I'm not sure how I'll execute it, though, because my scanner doesn't work on my printer, so if I wanna draw something up & upload it unto my laptop I might have to be ghetto & take a picture of it instead.  Sigh, I need a new processor, possibly another battery, & now a new printer/scanner/copier all in one for my laptop.  Rawr, I wish I was a gazillionaire already!

I've been feeling nostalgic lately & came across some pictures of the past (ah, the days when I was skinny-er, flawless, & happier).  I'll be posting some of these pictures throughout the next couple of weeks, months, or however long it'll take until my nostalgic journey ends.  We'll now begin with this:

Circa December 2002 at the tennis court parking lot of Salem High School. A bunch of friends & I were meeting up for a gathering & came across this dead bird with a fish in its mouth. Maybe the fish was poisonous, or maybe the bird choked on the fish. Oh well, whatever the cause of death was it'll always remain a mystery to this day.

why?

Ever since I moved back to Virginia Beach from Richmond, my face has broken out in pimples.  Gross, right?  Well, I think this is the worst my face has ever been.  Everyday I find a new pimple & I don't know what to do.  I mean I usually clean my face twice a day & I barely touch my face since hands carry germs.  Ugh, I feel like I might have to do ProActiv or use that Clean & Clear acne stuff.  My face has never been like this.  It was so smooth & flawless & I didn't have to keep up with it that much.  It's like everyday I look in the mirror, boom!  A new pimple =(  Maybe it's my hormones... maybe it's stress.  Whatever it is, I wish it'd go away because I feel like I'm getting uglier & uglier by the minute.

another lonely night

So, I'm sitting at Barnes & Nobles right now as I type this sentence out.  Out of nowhere this lady with two hyperactive, yet cute children (both asking for cookies) asks if I have Internet on my laptop & I tell her that I do.  She then asks if she could use it to show something to her husband in exchange for free coffee.  Being a good samaritan & getting something good out of it?  Why heck yes!  Of course my computer was lagging a bit, and right before she gets to showing her husband whatever it was she was showing him my laptop shuts off due to my battery being totally drained.  I told her that I was sorry about my battery & that all I would have to do is just plug it in, & she asked what coffee I wanted.  After having to reboot my computer & almost having my web browser started up again, she comes back to me and says that once they had my drink ready to just pick it up.  I told her that she would have to log in again, but she just insisted it was ok & that she just wanted to prove a point to her husband.  This story was probably pointless, but I'm just glad I got free coffee out of it, since it's freezing cold in here & I'm already look like I'm dressed warm.

Anyways, my two hours of Internet for 3.99 is about to end in 30 minutes.  Until then...

choke

I just saw the movie, Choke, & I enjoyed it.  Of course it's not as great as the book, but then again it's been a year or two since I last read Chuck Palaniuk's novel, so I don't know if its visual aid interpreted the content well within the novel.  I'm hoping to reread it again once I get it back from a friend who is currently borrowing it.

Speaking of books, I finally finished reading Twilight & am currently reading its sequel, New Moon.  It's too early to exactly say how I feel about Twilight, since it's probably best to finish reading the entire series, but I must say I do like it so far.  However, reading New Moon is somewhat of a relief for me.  It was exciting to read about Bella's experiences because (like everyone else) it was like going through the motions of our own first love experiences all over again.  It felt like nostalgia, which was good, but a bit horrible for me since I can somewhat still feel that pain of when our love ended.  I believe reading this sequel might be the turning point of my love life... maybe.

I'm contemplating about participating in the Look Alive Project & finally registering for the Susan G. Komen 5K marathon this week.  I need to stop procrastinating & start making a change in my life.  This may not be that much of a change, but if I want that something big to happen in my life then I have to do something.  Let's hope this all goes as planned.

Random Thought:
Books & movies aren't real, yet I always seem to relate myself to characters.  I do this so much that I sometimes believe I suffer from the same issues as they do & end up thinking I am them.  I need to stop thinking like this.

define me, oh define me!

I've received a lot of "sorries" today.  I feel I try too hard to make things happen.  I don't understand why it's always like this on unplanned weekends.  For once I'd like to be the one someone wants to hang out with.  Am I just overanalyzing things again?  I mean, I think I'm an unique enough person to spend time with.  I feel everyone else overlooks that.  I always wonder what my place is on Earth.  I feel I'm only interesting the first few days or weeks a person meets me, but then after that I'm nothing.  I sometimes think if I disappeared no one would even notice.

Everything happens for a reason.  Maybe, but what does this all mean?  When I go through these days where I hate myself & feel no one cares... what does it all mean?  I guess things will finally happen with all this wait, but fuck!  I'm tired of waiting.  Something needs to happen now!

rawr, i'm a allosaurus dinosaur!

I love Thao Nguyen, and seeing this video makes me wanna be cool like her:

Thao Nguyen & The Get Down Stay Down - Swimming Pools

Anyways, I want to be a dinosaur for Halloween.  I've contemplated this for some time now (ever since May) & I would be an Alysaurus -Rex (Allosaurus+T-Rex).  We'll see how it goes.

I need to draw something, but I don't know what.  I've had impulses to create something, but I just don't know where to start.  Motivation needs to come to me now.

hello fall

Well, I'm a day late in greeting Autumn, but better late than never, right?
Anyways, this past weekend I did some video work for my "internship" & it was a bit of what I expected, except the part where I drove all the way to Norfolk to pick up someone (the video guy's wife).  Crazy, right (more like I felt I was just being used for bitch work)?  I must say I felt a bit awkward, but yet comfortable enough to go through with it.  So, I waited a while for her to come, but as soon as I saw her walking toward my car I realized she wasn't what I expected (she was described to be as being fresh from the P.I.).  She looked unique & "artsy," & as soon as she stepped in my car I could feel this aura about her that made me believe she was... well, cool.  We had a conversation during the entire car ride.  I found out she moved from the Philippines not too long ago & that she's an artist.  She specializes in arts & crafts, but she does paint & draw & the whole nine yards.  She also mentioned how she wished she had some assistance to help in her art projects &, of course, I plugged in my services & she was more than ecstatic.  I told her how interested I was in making crafts & she insisted I take her old sewing machine to learn how to use one & put it to good use.  I really hope this all works out because I have plans of making little things here and there.  In gratitude of my pick-up service, Charmaine (the lovely artist I had the pleasure of meeting), gave me this Pear Softie:
Made with real Swavrorski crystals
These are other links of  her other Etsy site & an arts & crafts group based in the 757 area, respectively: seaspringlove.etsy.com & 7citiescrafters.com

Besides interning, later that night I attended a small art show down at the Oceanfront in support of my coworker, the fabulous Alex M.  I love his photography & I'm glad he lets me in on critiquing his photography every now and then during & after work.  I see him going places in the near future.

stacks on deck, patron on ice...

I can't sleep (those five hour naps sure can spoil a night's rest).

Surprisingly, my new year as a 23 year old has gotten off to a good start.  My weekend at Nags Head, NC was unbelievable.  It was definitely worth the experience.  I enjoyed meeting & hanging out with these interesting new faces:
Thanks for a good time, Kat & Sheeryl!  I miss the weekend already.

I was watching some music videos on T.V. & really liked T-Pain's "Can't Believe It."  I thought it was entertaining & I just like the graphics used in it.  I hope I can create something like that one day.

So, I've been listening to a lot of Hip-Hop & R&B lately.  I guess I needed a break from listening to all that indie rock/electronic/dance/punk/alternative on my iPod.  I want something new to listen to.

Ok, I think I'm going to close my eyes for a bit.  Until then...

longboarding at night

I was bored (more like procrastinating on getting "intern" work done) after work & had an urge to take pictures while longboarding around at night.  I have a pretty good digital SLR (Canon Rebel XTi), & surprisingly I haven't used it in a while or at it's full potential.  I know, what a waste, right?  Well, I'm hoping to use it more since I somewhat have more time nowadays & since I feel I need to bring back my creative/artistic juices.  Here's a few pictures I've captured on my adventure longboarding around a golf course:

Feedback is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

sigh

The weekend is ending & although I do enjoy my time to relax & socialize with friends, I'm eager to go back to work.  Weekends aren't usually that special to me.  Most of the time I find myself at home while the rest of my family is out & about.  I mean this isn't that bad since I get to focus on me & have downtime, but sometimes I feel kind of alone & separate from whatever world it is I'm living.  I don't know.  I usually make the effort to do things with friends & I'm starting to get tired of it.  I wish the same was given to me in return.  And once again, this is the reason why I don't like the weekends... it makes me think too much & overanalyze things (especially when I'm alone).

Anyways, I'm dreading for my birthday to come.  Why?  I don't know.  It's not so much the thought of turning a year older, but more of the thought that it will be my birthday.  I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but that's how I feel.  I don't really care that it will be my birthday.  That sounds so depressing, & a bit pessimistic, but it's just another day.  This may sound a bit contradicting too since I did plan to have dinner on my birthday, but I figured since this will be the first time in a while since I've had my birthday back home I should do something for it.

Random Thoughts:
I've been pretending & tricking myself to think things are ok, but I know they're not.  I want things to be ok, but it's hard trying.  I miss doing art & being more creative.  I've lost my motivation & don't know where to start.  I've been reading & it's got me thinking in a fantasy.  Music has been my outlet, & I don't know what'd I do without my iPod.  I think too much & I don't know how to stop.  I wish I could move on already...
